Pentimento / Young English - Split - 12" - $13.00
larger image
Hot off two of the most well received EPs of 2011, Pentimento and Young English combine their New York brand of punk to put forth Split on Panic Records. Right down the middle with four songs each, if Split had a sign it’d be Libra because it balances the light and dark side of music to a tee.
Pentimento is four young men with old punk souls who pull on their CD collections to bring to life a sound that is heavily rooted in taking their personal heavens and hells and translating them with a brash honesty. Punknews.org noted their style on 2011's Wrecked was a, “…youthful exuberance and a seasoned sound...” and they continued to bring that flavor with Split and songs like “L'Espirit De Escalar (The Stairs).” Both bands offer a cover, Pentimento exceeded expectations with their version of a Dashboard Confessional fan favorite, “The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most.”
Odd that Pentimento picked an Emo classic, since it’s their Split partners, Young English who have done justice defending their Emo Punk brand. The Orange County, NY group came together through a series of sober and not so sober phone calls, but once the talking was said and done, their EP I Hate My Friends was a punk music critics dream and with Split, they took things into reality. Fusing together the rock of The Get Up Kids and the heart of Saves The Day, Young English is the ironic bright side of Split with harsh lyrics surrounded by lighter music like in “Woke Up Under Water.”
Splits are the norm for many young bands today, but with Split Pentimento bring the muscle, while Young English convey their share of passion to make this the split to get in 2012.
